The names of the winners were announced at the Ancap Museum, the main sponsor of this national qualifier, which attracted more than 400 youngsters from all over the country.
Skills on a rally simulator, a slalom on board a Renault Kwid, physical examinations, an assessment of English language skills and personal relations were taken into account in the nomination of five young "pilots" (one female and four male) who will soon travel to the Continental Final in Peru. From there, the winner will join the FIA Rally Star team to participate in the training season in Europe, with prizes such as scholarships in international motorsport promotional categories.
Present at the conference were: Alejandro Stipanicic (President of Ancap), Jorge Tomasi (President of the Automobile Club of Uruguay), Eduardo Ulloa (National Sports Secretariat), Alfredo Fernández Sivori (Ducsa), Juan Pablo Casella (President of the Uruguayan Rally Club) and Ricardo Joubanoba (President of the ACU Sports Commission and coordinator of the process that took several months).
Joubanoba himself, after highlighting the enormous effort made by the organising group, named the five qualifiers: Nicolás Martínez (Canelones), Tamara Seijas (Montevideo), Santiago Ruiz (Lavalleja), Juan Bañales (Montevideo), Federico Baliero (Maldonado).
The collaboration of the municipalities of Soriano, Florida, Salto, Maldonado and Mercedes, as well as the support of Renault, DUCSA, Seguros Sura and ANCAP, was especially appreciated.
The ACU is pleased to have more than fulfilled the task entrusted to it by the FIA, that of opening doors to new talents with no other requirement than to have signed up.
